Surgeon fined for operating on wrong finger

The Iowa Board of Medicine fined plastic surgeon and hand specialist Rene F. Recinos, MD, PhD, $2,500 for performing trigger release surgery on a patient’s right ring finger instead of the right middle finger. Recinos realized his mistake, informed the patient, and performed the surgery on the correct finger. He has submitted a written corrective action plan in order to help prevent this error from occurring again.
